Getting Ejected from the Game
-
The aim of both teams is to try and score the most 'runs' by the end of the game. 'Runs' are achieved by a player making it around all the bases and safely make it back to home base.
It is the role of the other team to try and get players 'out' before they get back to home base
-
These two teams take alternate turns batting and fielding.
The team that is batting, has players aim to bat balls thrown to them by the opposing team's pitcher. If they successfully hit a pitch, they try to get to first base safely.
The team that is fielding is trying to get each player on the batting team out. The pitcher can do this by 'striking out' a batter (throwing three balls the batter tries to hit but cannot) or the fielders can do this by tagging players with the ball, or beating them to the base they are trying to get to whilst in possession of the ball
During each inning both teams get a chance to bat and field.
-
An inning is basically one 'round' of a baseball game.
An inning is split into halves the 'top' (first half) and the 'bottom' (second half) ((there is absolutely nothing funny to say about tops and bottoms))
At the start of the inning one team will be batting and one team fielding. Once this half of the inning is over, they swap around.
A half comes to an end when the fielding team has gotten 3 players of the opposing team out.
