Who are the Glasgow Sunflowers?

The Glasgow Sunflowers Baseball Club are a community sports team based in the Southside, run by and for women, non-binary and all trans people! We strive to be an accessible, supportive and safe environment for people to play baseball, find their people and have fun.

Why were the Sunflowers formed?

We wanted to create a baseball team for women, non-binary and all trans people, simply because we didn’t see this represented in any other baseball team in Scotland!

Queer people often feel less welcomed, less included and less encouraged in sporting environments; creating safe spaces for our community is essential to the full involvement in any kind of sport!

We took a lot of heart from teams like the Leicester Diamonds- an inclusive baseball club based in Leicester, who we have played multiple times now! As well as inclusive community football teams based here in Glasgow, like the Cathkin Blazes.

How long have the Sunflowers been around?

We were established in November 2022!

We celebrated our first birthday with a cowboy-barn raiser- rodeo-drag- arm wrestling- bang at the Rum Shack in 2023. There was music, there was performances, there was bingo, arm wrestling, line dancing and more!

In 2024, we celebrated our second birthday with an ICONIC night celebrating queer icons, featuring a pub quiz, raffle, DJing, dancing, and more. We’ve been exceptionally fortunate to be able to raise funds at both events to keep our team financially accessible for all!

We hope to have even more fun with you all when we celebrate our third birthday this year, in 2025!
